THEA: Ciao
PAOLA: Come va?
THEA: Bene
PAOLA: Il viaggio?
THEA: Anche bene.. grazie.
PAOLA: Scusa se non ti sono venuta a prendereee.. all’aeroporto..
THEA: Fa niente.. Fa assolutamente niente.. non ti preoccupare..  Ho comprato il biglietto.. ho preso il treno giusto.. perché ho imparato l’italiano bene in  Germania, con le tutte le interviste che ho fatto..
PAOLA: Interessante.  Dai...
THEA: ...sì...
PAOLA: ...andiamoci a prendere qualcosa..
THEA: Volentieri..

Ad un pub lì vicino  (At a local pub)
PAOLA: Dai, dimmi.. il viaggio come è andato??
THEA: è andato benissimo..
PAOLA: Il volo?
THEA: Molto bello. C’era il sole dappertutto, e .. sono arrivata in orario.
PAOLA: ‘mbene.. sì, ma qui non puoi fumare.
THEA: No?
PAOLA: No no. In Italia-a-a da anni c’è il divieto. Nei locali pubblici e privati.. ‘non si può fumare.
THEA: Non sapevo questa cosa.. perché da noi in Germania.. non esiste dappertutto-o-o questo divieto.. io ho fumato-o-o.. sempre...eh...lì .
PAOLA: Qui, invece-e-e..esiste ed è rispettato e poi è una cosa utile sia per noi non fumatori, che per voi.. non credi?
THEA: No-o-o, perché da voi in Italia non si rispettan' le regole..
PAOLA: Sarà strano, ma-a-a.. su questa-a-a.. stiamo molto attenti.. Sarà che c’è di mezzo la salute e quindi, al massimo qualche sigaretta la sera, in tarda serata.

THEA: Hi!
PAOLA: How are you?
THEA: Fine!
PAOLA: And what about your trip?
THEA:   Just fine, too.. thanks.
PAOLA: Sorry for not coming to get you-u-u... at the airport!
THEA: No problem.  Absolutely no problem. Don’t worry about it!  I  bought the ticket.. I caught the right train...  because I learned Italian quite well in Germany, with all the interviews I did. 
PAOLA: Interesting.  Let's go ..
THEA: ...yeah...
PAOLA: ...and have something to drink!        
THEA:  I'd love to!

PAOLA: And so, tell me.. how did the trip go?
THEA: It was great!
PAOLA:  And the flight?
THEA:  Real nice.  It was sunny everywhere, and .. I arrived on schedule. 
PAOLA:  M-m-m great!  Yeah, but.. you can't smoke here!
THEA: No?
PAOLA: No no.  In Italy it’s illegal to smoke...for years now...  In public and even private places, too: you can't smoke.
THEA: I didn’t know that... because in my country, in Germany,  this... ban ... doesn’t exist everywhere.. I've... always smoked... uh... there!
PAOLA:  Well... here it exists and it's respected... and anyway it's good for us non smokers as well as for you...  Don’t you think?
THEA:  No, come o-o-on... you guys in Italy, you never respect the rules...
PAOLA: It may sound strange, but… in this case we tow the line. Maybe it's because our health is concerned, and so the most you can do is have a few cigarettes when it's late... late in the evening.
