ROBERTA: Sì, a me è piaciuto “il grasso... grosso matrimonio greco”. Solo ch... ho visto che i genitori non nnnn... mi sembravano molto contenti del matrimonio misto.

MATTEO: Ma sai, quando si incontrano due culture diverse, è sempre difficile trovare un punto d'accordo.

ROBERTA: Ah, io però, penso che invece.. proprio il fatto di avere una cultura diversa.. di...di avere una lingua diversa, che.. possa essere stimolante.. possa essere qualcosa che mantenga vivo il rapporto tra due persone.

MATTEO: Sì, ma non capisco perché devo faticare per incontrare un'altra cultura, quando posso tranquillamente adattarmi ad una persona che la pensa come me.

ROBERTA: Ma, ehh.. guarda che tu puoi avere questo problema anche con persone della tua stessa cultura e della tua stessa nazionalità..

MATTEO: ma perché devo sforzarmi di capire una persona di un'altra cultura, quando posso adattarmi ad una della mia, senza fatica e senza problemi?

ROBERTA: E allora, a questo punto.. perché vai a vedere un film Americano? Perché leggi un libro in Inglese? Perché v...vai all' ESTERO? Ehmm, si sta tanto bene in Italia..

MATTEO: Appunto, accontentiamoci e via..

ROBERTA: Yes, I liked “My fat... um... big Greek Marriage”. The only thing is... his parents didn't... um...  really seem very happy over the mixed marriage. 

MATTEO:  Well, you know... it's always hard to...   find a common point between two different cultures that come together.

ROBERTA:  Ok, but I... I think that the very fact of having a different culture and... and... a different language can... be very stimulating... v-... very useful in maintaining the relationship between two people alive.

MATTEO:  Alright, but I don't see why I have to work hard at understanding another culture, when I can more simply adapt to a person who thinks like me.

ROBERTA : Ok, but..  Look, you can have the same problem just as well with people with the same culture and nationality as yours.

MATTEO : But why do I have to make the effort to understand someone from another culture, when I can adapt to a person from mine without effort and without problems?

ROBERTA:  Well then, if that's so, why do you go see American films,  why do you read English authors, why g- g- go ABROAD...  um... if you're so cosy here in Italy?

MATTEO: That's the point!  Let’s be content withwhat we have, what the heck!.
